To begin, kids select a picture (you can also send in your own picture), write a story for it, and publish it. For grades K-6. 2. Guide to Grammar and Writing http://grammar.ccc.commnet.edu/grammar/ Suggestions, examples, quizzes, and links to help the writing process. This site is geared for high school students or can be used as an elementary/middle school teachers' resource. 3. Geosense: An Online World Geography Game http://www.geosense.net/ Test your knowledge of world geography alone or against another online player. Players can choose different maps, and signing in allows you to track scores and chat with others. 4. Colonial Williamsburg: History for Kids http://www.history.org/kids/index.cfm The Colonial Williamsburg Kids Zone includes interactive games and activities for elementary aged students. Resources are also available for teachers. Be sure to check out the "Tour the Town" link where you can virtually explore the actual town. 5. Figure This! Math Challenges for Families http://www.figurethis.org/index.html Created by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, this site helps families (classrooms too!) enjoy mathematics through a series of fun and engaging challenges. 6. Fun Kids Online Math Games http://www.sheppardsoftware.com/math.htm Free online math games presented in an arcade-style platform. For K-8 students (and possibly beyond). 7. New York Philharmonic http://www.nyphilkids.org/main.phtml? The New York Philharmonic Kidzone is a place for kids to come and learn about the NY Philharmonic and about the instruments, music, musicians, composers, and conductors of symphony music. The depth of information and activities are awesome. 8. Topicfire http://topicfire.com/ Rather than have your students read static online-news sites, have them try Topicfire. This site permits users to choose categories of interest and then fills the page with fresh, relevant content. Students can always see the latest news that relates to their areas of interest. 9. P.E. Ideas http://www.teachingideas.co.uk/pe/contents.htm A collection of ideas to use with children ages 5-11. This includes Heads and Shoulders, Late for School, Hoop Activity, and Untying the Knot. A great resource for classroom teachers who subscribe to the "learning in motion" theory. 10.
